Snorkeling

Rich marine life
The calm water between the main reef system and the shores of Xcalak is 25 kilometers long and a kilometer wide, creating one of the most spectacular places to snorkel in the Caribbean. No matter where you snorkel – and there are many great locations – you will see rich marine life. Often inside the reef you will find moray eels, rays, lobster and an abundance of fish, including some rare varieties such as spade fish.

An undiscovered gem
While there are many beautiful places to snorkel in Mexico, Xcalak is the undiscovered gem of the Caribbean. The proprietor of Diving Xcalak, Luis Batun, is a third-generation native of Xcalak and has intimate knowledge of the reef system. No matter the weather or water conditions, Luis and his captains will find the perfect place to snorkel where you’ll have an incredible experience. Luis has been snorkeling in Xcalak his entire life and is able to customize each trip to the desires and skill levels of his clients. This means you see and experience what you want, when you want. This is what sets Diving Xcalak apart from other tours.

A relaxed, custom, low-cost experience
Diving Xcalak prides itself in offering a relaxed, custom, low-cost experience. What you will not find here are large boats with dozens of snorkelers led by young, inexperienced boat captains with limited knowledge of the reef system. Diving Xcalak has been traversing the waters and Xcalak reef system for more than 25 years.

Your home away from home
Once you are settled into your accommodations on the shores of Xcalak, there is no need to drive to our shop – you can leave the car keys behind and await Luis’ arrival on his boat, Sharon. Luis will pick you up on the beach or at the dock and after a half-day snorkeling tour of the reefs of Xcalak, you will be safely returned to your home away from home.

In addition to snorkeling we offer bird watching tripsscuba diving and boat tours to see and experience the diverse biosphere surrounding Xcalak.
